The Selective Color Tools group includes two tools: Selective Color and Split Color Warmth. Both are designed to allow for precise manipulation of a photo’s colors through targeted adjustments.
Selective Color Tool
The Selective Color Tool is the perfect tool for manipulating specific colors. Use the Eyedropper to custom target a color, which you can then transform.
- Hue – Adjust the color balance of the target color.
- Saturation – Boost or fade the color intensity.
- Luminance – Darken or lighten the affected area.
Targeting a color
The six swatches offer targets to transform color based on a Hue selection.
After making the initial color selection with the eyedropper, you can quickly refine the selection.
- Plus Dropper: Extends the hue range to include the selected color.
- Minus Dropper: Narrows the hue range to exclude the selected color, adjusting feather distance accordingly.
Adjust the RAMP
You can visually adjust the selected color range and its blending points. There are four points which control the hue range and feathering effect:
- Lowest Hue Affected ®: Colors at this hue are not affected.
- Lowest Hue with Full Strength (A): Sets the feathering start.
- Highest Hue with Full Strength (M): Sets the range of full effect.
- Highest Hue Affected (P): Colors at this hue are not affected.
Split Color Warmth
These controls are simple but incredibly powerful. The photo is divided into two zones: Warm and Cool. Each slider can be used to warm or cool each zone.
Push existing warm and cool areas to emphasize their differences, effectively creating a Split Tone effect, but for color. You can also warm up areas that are too cold to create a better color balance.
