Radiant Photo 2.2 is now released. This update focuses on one big leap for the Enhance control, plus a set of quality-of-life improvements across cropping, workflows, plugins, and overall stability.
Highlights at a Glance
- Enhance slider now goes to 200% for tougher exposures and more flexibility in Smart Editing.
- Unified visual grid for Develop Settings and Presets so previews stay the same size and shape.
- Drag-and-drop folders (including subfolders) directly into Radiant Photo, with unsupported files automatically skipped.
- Smarter Custom Aspect Ratio: remembers your settings better and adds a quick swap for width/height.
- Improved crop experience with clearer cursors, more accurate handles, and a crop grid that stays aligned with rotated images.
- Perfectly Clear Legacy Looks now included in the default installation—no separate download required.
- A long list of bug fixes and stability improvements across the app and plugins.
Smart Editing – Enhance Goes to 200%
The Enhance slider in the Smart Editing tools now runs from 0–200%.
You’ll see the same intelligent, scene-aware enhancement at everyday values. For difficult images—especially those with exposure challenges or strong backlighting—you can now push Enhance well beyond 100% to recover tone and contrast.
- Enhance continues to refine overall tone, contrast, and clarity, helping:
- Recover highlights and bring structure back to bright areas
- Improve backlit photos with more readable midtone areas
- Make details appear clearer and sharper
- Render faces with more natural contour, depth, and realistic skin tone
Develop Settings, Presets & Workflows
Consistent Visual Grid for Develop Settings & Presets
We’ve unified the visual grid used for Develop Settings and Presets so previews stay consistent. Thumbnails now use the same size and shape as the Filmstrip, minimizing UI “jumps” when switching between images or collections.
Looks & Content
The Perfectly Clear Legacy Look packs (Black & White Film Stocks, Color Film Stocks, Color Grades, and Stylized Color) are now included in the default installation.
There’s no longer a need to install these separately from the marketplace or toolkit store. They’re ready to go after updating.
Workflow Organization
Workflows menu order is now more predictable: The Core workflows are grouped at the top, with additional workflows organized in a logical order beneath.
When no images are loaded, Radiant Photo now skips the workflow-change warning, since there’s nothing to reprocess yet.
Opening Photos & Managing Folders
Drag and Drop Folders into the App
You can now drag a folder directly onto the Radiant Photo window and:
- All supported images inside that folder (and its subfolders) will be loaded.
- Unsupported file types are cleanly skipped in the background.
This makes it much easier to bring in entire shoots, client folders, or organized projects with nested structure.
Grid View Responsiveness
Switching to Grid view is now more responsive. The delay on the first switch has been significantly reduced, making it faster to browse large sets of photos.
Crop, Aspect Ratio & Cursors
Cropping gets some improvements with the new release.
Better Crop Handles & Grid
Crop handles can now be grabbed directly—no more hunting a few pixels off the corner to resize the frame.
The crop grid orientation stays in sync with your image, even after rotating by 270°. The grid now correctly follows vertical and horizontal orientation.
Custom Aspect Ratio Improvements
Custom Aspect Ratio is more reliable and easier to use:
- Radiant Photo remembers your custom aspect ratio** more consistently between sessions.
- When you edit a custom ratio, the dropdown updates to display the new value immediately.
- A new swap control lets you flip width and height in one click (e.g., 10×4 becomes 4×10)
- We’ve strengthened the workflow around the Custom Aspect Ratio dialog so that:
- The crop grid doesn’t get “stuck” if you apply or reset crop while the dialog is open.
- The dialog behaves more like a true modal: it’s harder for it to slip behind the main window and block further crop changes.
Clearer Cursors While Cropping
Radiant Photo now provides clearer visual feedback when cropping:
Edge and corner cursors rotate appropriately, indicating the correct direction for resizing.
A more intuitive move cursor appears when repositioning the crop.
Together, these changes make cropping feel more precise and predictable.
Application & UX Improvements

Splash Screen on Launch
- Radiant Photo now displays a splash screen while the desktop application is loading.
- This appears immediately, stays on top during startup, and disappears once the UI becomes responsive—providing clear feedback that the app is launching and making progress.
Sliders, Tools & Stability
- The Exposure slider now accepts typed values and arrow-key adjustments immediately—no need to move the slider first. These changes also properly register in undo history.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when clicking Reset default develop settings with no images loaded.
- Resolved an issue where Radiant Photo could log an Application Error in the Windows Event Viewer on exit, even though the app appeared to work normally.
- Several Smart Preset names that were missing translations are now localized correctly in non-English languages.
- The import dialog for Develop Collections has been updated to show accurate wording when confirming imports.
Portrait Workspace
The Skin Tone section is now properly available within the Portrait Workspace, making it easier to refine subject to background and color casts directly where portrait tools are in use.
How to Update
If an update is available, the Radiant Manager should open and prompt you to update your software. Up to once a day, your plugin will check in to our website to see if an update is available. If there is, the Radiant Manager will launch, and you’ll be prompted to run the update.
The Radiant Manager is the fastest and easiest way to keep your application up to date. Updates can include enhancements and bug fixes, as well as new features. Just follow the on-screen instructions.
Tip: Make sure to quit any host applications, such as Photoshop or Lightroom Classic, as well as Radiant Photo 2 when running an update.
If Radiant Manager for Windows is crashing, please see this article.
