It’s time to update. We are about to ship version 1.4. Keep reading to learn how to update.

Thank you for being a Radiant Photo user. We truly appreciate your passion for the product and your feedback. This update further improves our color grading tools and options when saving photos. We strive to provide high-quality software and closely look at the bugs and feature requests we receive through our tech support team.

New Feature: High Efficiency Image Format Decoder Support

We are excited to announce that Radiant Photo now supports decoding for HEIF files. Windows users may need to install the optional HEIF support plugin from the Windows Store if they don’t already have it. Camera makers like Fujifilm, Nikon, and Apple have started shipping variations of the HEIF format as an alternative to JPEG. The format offers smaller file sizes and better bit depth for more accurate color.

Supported Extensions are HEIF, HIF, and HEIC.

Improved Feature: Selective Color Tool gains new capabilities

This update introduces new features and improvements to color adjustments. The selective color tools allow for the precise selection and adjustment of an image with six additional points based on a Hue selection. With these changes, the previous Range and Feather controls are removed and replaced with ones that provide more precise selections.

  • Range and Feather Sliders: Adds two new controls for more precise color adjustments of a color selection.
  • Draggable Points: Four points control the hue range and feathering effect:
    • Lowest Hue Affected ®: Colors at this hue are not affected.
    • Lowest Hue with Full Strength (A): Sets the feathering start.
    • Highest Hue with Full Strength (M): Sets the range of full effect.
    • Highest Hue Affected (P): Colors at this hue are not affected.

  • Easy color selection with eyedropper: After making the initial color selection with the eyedropper, you can quickly refine the selection.
    • Plus Dropper: Extends the hue range to include the selected color.
    • Minus Dropper: Narrows the hue range to exclude the selected color, adjusting feather distance accordingly.

  • Numeric Hue entry: You can double-click on a color swatch to precisely enter the Hue value and target the color numerically.

Improved Feature: Enhanced PNG Support

Radiant Photo now supports 16-bit PNG files, offering higher bit depth for improved image quality. You can now save 16-bit PNG files for better color fidelity. To create a 16-bit PNG file, you must use an original raw or a 16-bit TIFF file. The new bit depth options are listed in a dropdown below the format selection in the Save dialog.

New Feature: Presets and Preset Management for Detailed Edit Tools

The Detailed Edit tools have a new and efficient preset management system. A new preset menu is under these three tools. Be sure to check out the new presets that have been added.

  • Selective Color
  • Graduated Filter
  • Finishing Tools

All three tools now offer inspirational presets to help you stylize your photos or solve problems. You can also save your own custom presets and easily manage and select presets to improve workflow efficiency.

Improved Feature: Automatically handles files that are missing resolution tags.

When opening raw files, resolution tags are often missing. Radiant Photo will now assign a pixel-per-inch setting of 300 psi for any image with missing information. This is ideal for print output and ensures more consistent output. This change does not affect the total pixel dimensions; the image is just set correctly for print output.

New Feature: View Preset Groups with Ease

To enhance your editing experience, Radiant Photo now allows only one preset group to be open at a time. Opening a new preset group will automatically close any previously opened groups. This improvement helps maintain a cleaner workspace and ensures that you can focus on the presets most relevant to your current project. It also makes it easier to see just what you want with less scrolling.

Improved: Preservation of IPTC and Metadata on Export

Radiant Photo now preserves embedded metadata when exporting most file types.

  • Embedded Metadata: Metadata added by the camera or embedded in TIFF or JPEG files before opening in Radiant Photo will be preserved.
  • Supported File Types: Exporting to most file types will retain this embedded metadata.
  • Note: Radiant Photo cannot read metadata from sidecar files (e.g., XMP files).

This update ensures that your important metadata remains intact throughout the editing and exporting process.

Improved: New Sizing Presets

You’ll find new presets for sizing images when saving files. The presets are based on percentages, use cases, megapixel counts, and custom.

Several User Interface Improvements

Several bugs and user interface improvements are addressed, including:
